Etna Eruption 2022/2023

It began almost quietly during the late afternoon of November 27, 2022 (photo 1), without the blatant demonstrations witnessed in 2021 with the countless paroxysms of the Southeast Crater. High fountains of lava and flows on the flanks have characterized an entire season, giving to the many enthusiasts tourists a unique show in the world. The new eruptive fracture on the flank of the Southeast Crater gave birth to a lava flow which first created a vast lava field, with the numerous arms “forced” to travel also within the already set and cooling flows. Numerous overlaps with the formation of a hornito exactly in the place of the main vent (photo 4). Its position is not the best due to the instability of the side of the Southeast Crater and the roughness of the surrounding terrain, but it was and is possible to admire the phenomenon from a safe distance with our dedicated tours. Thousands of volcano enthusiasts visited the new eruption from all possible altitudes and at any time, so as not to miss even a minute of the surprising evolution of Etna. During the last week there has been a kind of pause from the volcano, with the emission that at first slowed down to almost stop, and then restarted vigorously. To keep the red lava companionship, now, there is also the snow of Etna, this year it arrived a little later than last season. Here are some pictures of the activity currently in progress:
